Council Officers are elected by members for a fixed term. They are Trustees of the Charity. The roles are voluntary.

Dr Alexandra Sinclair is Professor of Neurology at the University of Birmingham and leads the Translational Brain Science Research Group. Her clinical and research focus is on Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) and headache disorders, with a strong emphasis on improving patient outcomes through innovative, evidence-based care.She is also a Consultant Neurologist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, Dr Sinclair provides specialist care for patients with IIH and complex headache disorders.
From 2013 to 2022, she served as Director of the Headache Service at University Hospitals Birmingham.To date, Dr Sinclair has been awarded over £22 million in competitive grant funding from major organisations including the Medical Research Council, the National Institute for Health & Care Research, the UK and US Departments of Defence, and the UK Space Agency. She has published extensively in leading journals and continues to shape the international field of IIH and headache research.

Recently retired GP who has over 20 years’ experience as a GP with an extended role in
headache at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Chair of SIGN Headache guideline 107 (2008)
and clinical advisor on SIGN 155 “Pharmacological management of Migraine (2018,
2023). He has led and advised on several Scottish National projects. Passionate about
medical education.

Consultant neurologist working in King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. She has a special interest in transitioning young people from paediatric to adult headache services. Her research background includes a PhD on the subject of cluster headache.

Consultant Neurologist and Clinical lead at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Trust with specialist interest in Headache. Chair of Northern Regional Headache Specialist group with role in developing local, regional and national pathways of care for patients with headache. She has an active role in headache clinical trials and up to date headache treatments with a keen interest in app technology to improve headache management.

Consultant Neurologist at the Headache and Facial Pain Service at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, UCLH NHS FT and Deputy Director for Exams at UCLH. She has built wide-ranging experience in treating primary and refractory headache disorders such as chronic migraine, vestibular migraine, tension-type headaches, neuralgias and trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias. She also has specialist expertise in advanced treatments, including neurostimulation for intractable headache and facial pain.

Advanced Headache Nurse Practitioner & Lead Nurse at The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, UCLH NHS FT.
She was a topic-specific expert member of the NICE Clinical Guideline Committee for Headache (CG150 Review, 2015). She is Education Committee Member of International Headache Society (IHS) and Member of the Board of the International Forum for Headache Nurses. Winner of Royal College of Nursing Award in view of her work in creating pioneering nurse-led headache services in UK.

GP with extended role
BASH Honorary Advisors are co-opted on to the Council and contribute to BASH Full Council meetings. The role is usually for two years but may be extended.
